Many think of publishing in one way—the production and sale of a book. Librarians know this is one of many ways people access information—the library world is expanding to reach and support users in creative ways. The Library Publishing Toolkit has two major goals:
We want to share stories of the innovative ways libraries are creating and distributing materials as a part of their public services, or how they are helping patrons with these tasks. We have asked libraries to write about their projects or participate in interviews—these projects span Open Access journal publishing, colleges’ work with university and academic presses, libraries that provide print on demand services, support of authors with space, software, and events, and other ways libraries are encouraging doing, making, and creating.
We want to provide resources to libraries looking to augment their services with creative and engaging publishing projects and services by publishing the Library Publishing Toolkit—a compilation of workflows and best practices in library publishing—as an Open Access e-book.
