The Library Publishing Toolkit has had a busy first three months researching publishing resources, trends and talking with organizations and libraries that are innovators in the field.
We have accepted 36 article submissions that cover topics from Print-on-Demand services to collaboration between library and faculty to promote digital storytelling. Of the 36, we have 2 authors from non-library organizations, 3 International libraries, and one public library.
Some people and libraries we have spoken with are:
Lisa Spiro, NITLE – discussing Open SUNY Textbooks and other publishing initiatives – including Library Publishing Toolkit.
Katherine Skinner and Sarah Lippincott, Educopia and Library Publishing Coalition.
Library Director Rivkah Sass and Librarian Gerald Ward at Sacramento Public Library about their program I Street Press: http://www.saclibrary.org/Services/I-Street-Press/
Programming Librarian Janie Hermann at Princeton Public Library about their thriving writer’s groups and popular Local Author Day.
Oak Park Public Library’s Monica Harris about their program, Idea Box: http://oppl.org/events/idea-box,with more interviews in the progress.
Some activities on the horizon for the Library Publishing Toolkit:
- Cyril has been invited to participate at Future of Academic Publishing: http://openaccess.unt.edu/symposium/2013
We will visit University of Michigan Libraries MPublishing in late April to observe and talk about their multi-faceted publishing services.
